Debi Davis
A clicker trainer for the past 10 years, Debi appreciates that clicker training allows people with physical disabilities a way to train their own dogs to a high level of skill in a "hands off" way. Debi believes canine freestyle enhances the bond and skill of service dogs and their handlers, and is a sport people with disabilities can fully enjoy with their dogs, regardless of the handler's disability, since the emphasis is on the dog's ability, not the human's physical ability. Debi's service dog Peek, a 10 pound Papillon, was a 1999 Delta Society National Service Dog of the Year. Peek enjoys learning freestyle moves, though he is 11 years old and has lost considerable vision. Debi believes freestyle has enhanced the human-canine bond, allowed for creative problem solving and polished skills also used in service work. Debi is a member of Clicker Expo faculty, and has presented at numerous animal training conferences. She enjoys encouraging service dog users to discover the joys of participating in canine freestyle, so that the partnership of human and dog remains fresh, joyous and fun, and the skill level high.
